Stiga XTR is an upgrade of XTR. But is it more worth buying? Should we spend more money for this upgrade? To answer the question, we will compare Stiga XTR vs XTR Pro in this article.

For a quick answer, I would say that the Stiga XTR Pro is the better choice to buy. It is a top-quality outdoor ping pong table with excellent performance and sturdiness. Ít legs and wheels are bigger than its competitor, which makes it sturdier and more durable for long-term use.

As a runner-up, the Stiga XTR also has a number of features that are worth mentioning and considering buying. The assembly is notable for its QuickPlay design, so even an amateur can easily set it up. An excellent ping pong table for both outdoor and casual play.

Stiga XTR vs XTR Pro: Differences

When looking for an outdoor table, I always consider sturdiness as the most important. So, when comparing the difference between XTR and XTR Pro, I can conclude XTR Pro is more sturdy. It was 2-1 to XTR Pro.

Ease of Assembly

The Winner: Stiga XTR

From my experience, I can confirm that both tables are very easy to assemble. However, when compared together, Stiga XTR defeated XTR in this battle.

Quick and easy setup is one of Stiga XTR’s best features as it is 95% pre-assembled. The QuickPlay design makes the assembly straightforward, we only need an adjustable wrench. Net and post set isn’t difficult either. I am a bit handy with tools and familiar with the assembly of ping pong tables, so I can finish the job within ten minutes.

Due to this, you will need to spend more time and effort setting it up. And because the weight of XTR Pro is also larger than XTR, even if it is easy to assemble, I think we still need two people to complete the process within 15 minutes, as the company said.

Wheels

The winner: Stiga XTR Pro

Stiga XTR Pro wheels size is twice as big as Stiga XTR wheels size.
Stiga XTR Pro wheels size is twice as big as Stiga XTR wheels size.

The Stiga XTR only has eight 3’’ wheels, while XTR Pro comes with 6″ double-wheeled casters. In fact, the difference between wheels size allows XTR Pro to be stronger and sturdier, allowing the entire table to stay in a firm position during the game.

I suppose 3″ wheels are relatively small compared to the Stiga XTR ’s weight. As a result, moving the table on uneven floors or rolling the table around can be difficult. This is by no means a problem for XTR Pro, as it doubles up on the size of the wheels, effectively easing off any transportation issues you may have.

Legs

The winner: Stiga XTR Pro

There is no doubt that a table with a sturdy undercarriage has stable legs as well. And yes, I am talking about the XTR Pro with 1.5″ square steel legs. I felt the table leg was so firm that nothing could make the table shake.

For XTR, I wish the legs were more sturdy because it is only 1.25 ”. That’s not a bad thing at all. However, compared to XTR Pro, this was clearly a defeat for Stiga XTR in this competitive match.

Weight

Tie

As I said above, the XTR Pro has bigger legs, bigger wheels, and a studier undercarriage. So you might expect it to be heavier than XTR. But everything is completely opposite, the weight difference between XTR and XTR Pro isn’t significant. Stiga XTR weighs 79.83 kilograms, while XTR Pro weighs 80.74 kilograms.

With the improvements of XTR Pro about stability without sacrificing too much maneuverability, I will not hesitate to choose XTR Pro.

So in terms of weight, there is no winner. You can choose both tables without considering whether you lost any features.

Stiga XTR vs XTR Pro: Similarities

Tabletop

Stiga XTR and Pro have all-weather tabletop that can withstand all elements of weather
Stiga XTR and Pro have all-weather tabletop that can withstand all elements of weather

The Stiga XTR and XTR Pro both include a weatherproof aluminum composite tabletop that measures 0.25 inches (6mm). This table thickness is pretty standard for outdoor tables where the thickness is generally in the range of 4-7 mm.

There is a 1.5 inch (38mm) tubular steel apron supporting the tabletop. This ensures that the ball will bounce evenly and consistently across the whole table. Additionally, aprons can be quite helpful in preventing warping on surface tops as well. Having used both tables continuously for over a year, I have not encountered a tabletop warping problem yet.

To maintain a consistent bounce ball, multiple layers of coatings are layered upon the surface. These coatings are also treated against external elements. Sometimes, after playing, I do not take the table into the storage; instead, I leave it outdoors for the next game. Luckily, thanks to this coating on the surface to help the table’s color is not faded due to the weather element.

Net and Post Set

You would expect that it would come with a net and post set as standard, which is exactly what you’ll get. It’s a 72” all-weather premium net and posts that allow you to adjust the tension too. The net and posts can be easily attached and removed by tightening or loosening the screws.

However, I also encountered a few trouble with this net and post set. The screws are not as durable as I expected because after just two weeks of using them, the screws cushion is wearing off. I noticed that the screws are leaving scratches on the table as well.

Playback Position

The table can be completely separated into two halves, used individually and for multi-use. We can put it into a personal playback position by folding up one table half and using it as a backboard for our shots. This mode is great for practice without a partner or warm-up before the game.

Safety

Both the Stiga XTR and the Stiga XTR Pro tables feature self-opening legs. These legs pop out automatically when the table is opened up so that the table doesn’t collapse on your feet. Next up, a safety latch system is attached at the undercarriage, so the two halves of the table stay connected when they are not in use.

With four wheels on every half of the table, you can move the table in a smooth and safe manner and provide you with flexibility and mobility. Afterward, you can lock the wheels into place to not be moved unintentionally during storage or between games.
