I praise Stiga Advantage for its perfect entry-level bounciness and the simple assembly guideline. Meanwhile, Prince 6800 has innovative features like paddle & ball holders and bumper corners.
Assembly
The Winner: Stiga Advantage
Stiga Advantage is 52kg and 95 pre-assembled. Stiga claimed that Advantage would only cost you 10 – 20 mins to assemble – this is nothing but exacerbation. Even when I asked for help from two other adults, it still took us around one hour to get the job done.
However, the assembly is indeed simple. All I needed to do was attach bolts, a no-brainer task given that you follow the guideline.
It’s an entirely different story with Prince 6800. Assembling this table is a full-blown challenge both physically and mentally. When I saw its advertisement claiming assembly was 50% pre-assembled and would take 90 minutes, I estimated that it would take me at least double that time.
The truth is, we spent half a day wrestling with Prince 6800. The guideline was vague at some points, to begin with. For example, it told us to prepare a 1.4’’ and 9/16’’ wrench, but we didn’t see any bolts of that size, so we had to improvise right there. This happened many times during the assembly and drained our patience over and over again.
What’s worse, the manufacturing of Prince 6800 seriously needs more effective quality control. The 2’’ struts they gave us were too loose for every hole; moreover, the two halves of the table were off balance no matter how hard we tried to fix the problem. This issue would immensely affect the table’s playability, which I will go into detail about later.
In the end, I feel blessed that despite the traumatizing experience of assembling Prince 6800, we managed to get through this stage with no missing pieces (there were dozens of them, BTW; pay close attention to them from scratch, or you might need to wait for a whole week until the customer service reaches to you with the alternative pieces).
In a nutshell, while getting Advantage ready is not as easy peasy as Stiga’s advertisement boasts of, it didn’t make me question my decision as Prince 6800 did.
Paddle & ball holder and bumper corners
The Winner: Prince 6800
Advantage might perform beautifully in overall quality, but its design lacks creative details that level up customers’ experiences. On the other hand, Prince 6800 piques my interest with its paddle holders and bumper corners.
Firstly, using Prince 6800’s paddle and ball holder means you can say farewell to storage pouches. It does help the overall look of the table a little neater and more eye-soothing. Maybe I’m too into details here, but I think looking organized should be a massive plus for ping-pong tables if you’re supposed to place them in an office or a living room.
On the contrary, I’m a bit confused by its bumper corners. They’re said to be adding protection to the table, but I don’t really see how this feature can do better than the steel aprons, whose task is to preserve the table’s flatness.
Playability
The winner: Advantage
Advantage has a 15mm tabletop, thus offering a decent bounciness for beginners. Advantage won’t be your match if you are an intermediate player, but again, you can’t ask too much from an entry-level product.
Prince 6800’s 18mm tabletop should have performed better than Advantage if not for the troublesome assembly that ended up making the table imbalance. As I stated earlier, two table halves didn’t symmetrically align, and it was impossible to look away from this issue during matches.
Other than that, I have to admit that Prince 6800’s bounciness is terrific, thanks to the sturdy tabletop. It’s a pity that the poor manufacturing blurs this satisfying bounciness.
Color
The winner: Tie
Advantage chose the tournament blue color while Prince 6800 is matte grey, an unusual yet pretty eye-catching choice. There’s no winner this time as it all depends on your preferences.
Stiga Advantage Vs Prince 6800: Similarities
Playback mode
Both Stiga Advantage and Prince 6800 feature playback mode. Entry-level players often struggle with striking back balls, and practicing alone is the best way to pick up your speed.
If you’re worried about the tables’ sturdiness during matches, trust the safety latch system to do the job for you.
Net and Post Set
It seems like a trend for ping-pong tables to feature the net and post set instead of other conventional designs. It’s understandable why so: the setup only takes seconds to finish.
But be aware that ‘’fast’’ is not equal to ‘’convenient’’. The tension adjustment is a huge setback of this design, and you’ll have to stop in the middle of matches to re-adjust the net several times. At this point, I believe we can both agree that there are more sustainable designs than this one.
