Stiga Advantage vs Advantage Pro: Differences

The winner: Stiga Advantage Pro (4-1)

Advantage Pro’s win is unquestionable, considering its 4-in caster wheels and 2-in leg levelers. On the other hand, inside 18 stands out with its sturdy frame and undercarriage.

Thickness

The Winner: Advantage Pro

Stiga Advantage vs Advantage Pro Review
With a surface thickness of 18mm, the Advantage Pro is ambitious in offering expert-level playability

Advantage Pro has an 18mm thickness surface, whereas Advantage is just 15mm. That is because Advantage Pro is ambitious in offering expert-level playability, and Advantage is more of a recreational-purpose-only table.

Nonetheless, I have high words for Stiga’s manufacturing of both tables. As for Advantage, the evenness and bounciness should satisfy most beginners. It’s unlikely that you can encounter any $200 tables at a nearby mall with the same satisfying playability as Advantage.

I can sound a little biased here, but speaking as a ping-pong enthusiast, I feel like Advantage Pro’s 18mm thickness serves me better than Advantage. I know that wanting a 15mm thick table to outperform an 18mm thick table is wishful thinking, but if you’re picky like me, Advantage’s playability might be not enough.

All in all, both tables reach their peak performance given their measurements. If you want higher quality and don’t mind the price, the only choice is to move up to the 25mm thickness category for products like Joola Inside 25.

Steel table legs & leg levelers

The Winner: Advantage Pro

It’s obvious that a heavier table like Advantage Pro needs larger legs than Advantage. What caught my attention about Advantage Pro’s legs were the 2-inch levelers.

Stiga Advantage is not the only table that fails to compete with Advantage Pro in terms of this feature. A while ago, I compared Advantage Pro and Joola Inside 18 in terms of leg levelers and found out that Advantage is far ahead in this game.

Why are leg levelers important? We both know that an 18mm thickness table like Advantage Pro or recreation-purpose-only 15mm thickness like Advantage falls into the mid-range group in terms of price. Meaning they find their ways into households more often than high-end tables. And because mid-range ping-pong tables are meant for all family members, you would want yours to be as adaptive as possible to everyone, especially kids.

For some reason, my first intention was to get Advantage shipped to my house and Advantage Pro to my workplace. However, when I thought about the 2-inch leg levelers and how they suited my kids better than a bunch of adults, I changed my mind. Never regret that decision.

So when users include kids, Advantage Pro’s 2-in leg levelers have more to offer.

Weight

The Winner: Advantage

The Advantage’s weight is only 52kg, notably lighter than Advantage Pro
The Advantage’s weight is only 52kg, notably lighter than Advantage Pro

There’s no surprise that Advantage Pro is notably heavier than Advantage. It’s 18mm thickness tabletop, plus the frame and undercarriage, sums up to a total weight of 86kg.

Meanwhile, Advantage’s weight is only 52kg, notably lighter than Advantage Pro. Tables’ weight could be the deciding factor in a user’s final purchase decision. Ask yourself which one you prefer, a nearly tournament-quality table (let’s keep it real here, no tournament gives a fig about 18mm thickness tables), or an entry-level one yet easier to move and store?

Just for the record, despite its 86kg weight, Advantage Pro is still lighter than many other 18mm thickness tables. And don’t forget about the size of the locking caster wheels that I’m about to tell you right below. The weight is not the only factor in deciding the maneuverability of ping-pong tables.

Locking caster wheels

The Winner: Advantage Pro

If there’s one thing that Stiga can never fail to satisfy me, it is their locking caster wheels. Advantage Pro is the most popular 18mm thickness candidate out there that has 4-inch locking caster wheels, quite a size considering how 4-inch wheels are mostly seen with 25mm thickness tables only.

Looking at Advantage, I notice that its 3-inch caster wheels are charming as well. There’s a noticeable difference when we put it next to Joola Inside 15 – the current bestseller of the ping-pong world – same thickness and almost the same weight, yet only has 2-in caster wheels.

The unusual wheel-weight ratios of Advantage Pro and Advantage grant users the comfort of great movability, especially when kept indoors. For indoor tables, you would want as much control over the tables as possible with the least effort.

As I told you earlier, I placed Advantage Pro inside my living room, so even when I’ve re-organized my furniture to give space for the table, I’m still extra careful moving around the table. I don’t want it to 1. Leave scratches on my floor 2. If it’s too tricky to maneuver, I can accidentally damage the furniture as well. That explains why I’m more than grateful for this feature.

Worth to buy

The Winner: Advantage Pro

The Advantage Pro is the more worth-to-buy product
The Advantage Pro is the more worth-to-buy product

According to the STIGA official website, the price varies depending on the websites, but Advantage Pro is $599, $100 more expensive than the other.

Yes, $100 can be quite a budget. Still, considering Advantage Pro is a complete combo (the thickness, the exceptional playability, and durability,… All the above-listed features), I didn’t think twice about tagging Advantage as the go-to product.

The last time I checked, Stiga was running a sales promotion for Advantage Pro, so its price was the same as Advantage (just a few weeks after I received mine…). Sales promotions can be on and off, so count your luck!

Stiga Advantage vs Advantage Pro: Similarities

Playback mode

When you want to practice but there’s no one accompanying you, this feature will save your day. The first thing to do is to fold up half of your table; then, switch the safety latch system up to fixate the position, and done!

I love how it entertains my wife and kid, both of them are beginners and eager to develop their skills.

Set and post set

There’s no doubt that both Advantage and Advantage Pro are ideal for indoor use.

By saying indoor I don’t mean everywhere; there’re specific spots inside your house you should avoid leaving your tables if you want them to last long. People have the habit of dumping everything unused into garages, basements, or warehouses; however, the humidity of those places is not favourable for ping-pong tables.

Sometimes on sunny days, I take my Advantage Pro out into the backyard. Yes, it is okay doing that (let me remind you that its caster wheels are 4in, meaning it can be moved outside with ease), but don’t leave it out overnight. The humidity is higher at night and that can’t be beneficial for your table.
