Stiga Advantage Pro Review: Feature Analysis

Tabletop

18mm tabletop of Stiga Advantage Pro
18mm tabletop of Stiga Advantage Pro

Stiga Advantage Pro has an 18mm tabletop, which places it in the midrange tables between entry-level and professional. Regarding its quality, ts producers proudly introduce Advantage Pro’s playability to be “premium” and “tournament-grade”.

Can Advantage Pro really give customers what it promises? From what I see, its tabletop does live up to that statement to some extent.

As I expected, the bounciness is satisfying thanks to the high-quality wood chosen for the tabletop. This is also thanks to the surface being multilayered by cotton that boosts the consistency even more.

However, an 18mm tabletop does not belong to the expert category so if you aim for a table capable of serving professional practices, Advantage Pro is not the one for you.

Steel aprons

Never underestimate the importance of seemingly unimportant features like this. Often, what makes some tables stand out from the others is not the tabletop material but the steel aprons that keep tabletops from deforming.

Stiga Advantage Pro has 1.58-inch steel aprons that embrace the tabletop and protect it from chipping or warping up.

One problem with poorly-manufactured steel aprons is that they are loosely attached to the table’s edge. In such cases, steel aprons fail to fulfill their primary purpose of preserving the tabletop’s flatness. Thankfully, Advantage Pro’s steel aprons attach very firmly.

Net

Stiga Advantage Pro’s 72’ clamp-style net features tension and height adjustment

Its 72’ clamp-style net features tension and height adjustment. Not the greatest net design, I’d say.

Despite Stiga’s claim that the net is tournament-grade, I still think Stiga can do much better than this clamp-style design.

On the one hand, it’s totally understandable why they chose the clamp-style net, which has become a household name within the table tennis world. Indeed, no design can rival the famous clip-on net in terms of quick and simple setup.

But there are various flaws that hardly any clamp-style nets can get rid of. Its tension adjustment is unstable, unlike other more old-fashioned models. The net is also flimsy and doesn’t stand firmly on its own as well.

While I’m nowhere near being satisfied with Advantage Pro’s clamp-style net, I acknowledge that even some of the current best-sellers feature this model. So considering other benefits the Advantage Pro offers, it’s forgivable that its clip-on net isn’t the best.

Weight, Assembly, and Dimension

Advantage Pro is 86kg, considerably heavier than even some 18mm tables. This weight is a double-edged knife for the reasons below:

The heavyweight will inevitably cause complicated transportation and assembly. A harsh delivery process can lead to damaged products before coming into customers’ hands – such risk is more likely to occur for bulkier products.

Regarding assembly, though the instruction is simple and the table is mostly-preassembled, the weight makes assembly more difficult. Don’t fall for producers’ advertisements of 10-20 mins assembly – unless you’re very skilled at it, it’s probably gonna take you a min 30 minutes to finish.

The table’s dimension is 108″L x 60″W x 30″H, fitting the industry standard for regular tables. Make sure that your house is spacious enough for the table and players to move around it comfortably.

Table legs and Leg Levelers

The 1.58-inch table legs are square and powder-coated so customers can expect them to be pretty sturdy. One thing is that square legs outperform round ones in terms of pressure-resistant; also, the powder-cured surface adds a bonus to that pressure resistance, plus its longevity trumps regular paint.

Let’s not forget about its impressive 2-inch leg levelers.  I’ve seen many brands equipping their tables with 1.5-inch or below leg levelers. Leg levelers are not super important for indoor tables unless you have kid users; that also means 2-inch leg levelers welcome a larger group of customers.

Another goal of leg levelers is to balance the tables on uneven ground. Especially if the table is carried outdoors, you will see how leg levelers make a big difference.

Caster wheels

Advantage Pro paired with the 4-inch caster wheels

It’s a relief to see how Stiga has Advantage Pro paired with the 4-inch caster wheels. It’s common for indoor tables of Advantage Pro’s size to feature 3-inch wheels, but that weight-wheel ratio will result in less mobility.

So despite its heavyweight, maneuvering Advantage Pro is not tricky anyhow. The favorable wheel size and 2-inch leg levelers suggest that Advantage Pro is even available for outdoor use.

Indeed, I have moved Advantage Pro outside on sunny days a few times and was not disappointed. Its playability is more enjoyable than any outdoor table in the same price range. Don’t forget to bring it inside after use as its materials are not compatible with outdoor conditions.

Playback Mode

No tennis tables can skip this application if they want to attract beginners who wish to practice even when there’s no company to help them do it.

To activate this mode, switch the safety latch system on to lock one table half upright, and there you go!

Moreover, its anti-tilting device is also of great help. If you’re worried that the table will glide off during your play, drop that worry right now – it won’t happen anyhow.

Worth to Buy

I made an analysis of Stiga Advantage Pro Vs Joola Inside a while ago and found out that despite the numerous applications it offers, Advantage Pro only costs $499.99.

So if its tabletop meets your requirements, I doubt if you can find any same-range tables that can beat such a deal Advantage Pro presents.
